Assistant Cook

Job Description

Work Site: Shelter Island/Juneau

Employment Period: On or about May 10th through September 15th

Duties

  • Assist in the production of a set weekly breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu for 20 guests and 15 staff. Menu details will be discussed during the interview.
  • Follow daily prep sheets to ensure efficient menu item production.
  • Adjust menu items and/or quantities for special guest’s requests and dietary needs.
  • Maintain good communication with food servers to ensure the satisfaction of special dietary requests and needs.
  • Follow standard food safety and kitchen sanitation guidelines.
  • Follow kitchen and equipment cleaning schedules to ensure a food safe kitchen.
  • Track food inventory levels.
  • Assist in food and supply shopping trips done once every 12 days.
  • Miscellaneous duties related to lodge operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have experience in a commercial kitchen environment.  
  • Must be in good health and able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must obtain an Alaska Food Worker Certification (online course/test) prior to employment.
  • Must be able to conduct daily tasks with limited or no supervision.
  • Must enjoy entertaining people and able to get along with fellow workers in a remote setting.
  • Must submit results of NIDA-approved drug screen urinalysis prior to employment. Results of drug screen must indicate no use of illegal or dangerous drugs including marijuana.

Compensation/Benefits

  • Hourly rate DOE + tips. Average 9 hours per day 6-7 days per week.
  • Housing - Private room with shared bathroom/shower facilities. Bedding, towels, and laundry facilities available.
  • Meals - Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided while at the lodge.
  • Company is required to withhold applicable federal taxes from paychecks.
  • Covered for work related injuries/illnesses under worker’s compensation insurance.
  • Unemployment insurance.
  • Employees reimbursed for travel expenses upon completion of contract.
